Ailing Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Saturday after his health condition worsened. According to exclusive information available to Mail Today, both kidneys of the 69-year-old actor have been severely affected. Unconfirmed sources in the hospital said Khanna is on dialysis.
The actor's family has refrained from divulging details about his ailment ever since he was hospitalised for a few days in April this year.
On Saturday even as doctors refused to officially reveal specifics, the
actor's elder daughter Twinkle Khanna told a section of the press that
he was recovering, although it was not clear when he would be
discharged. His estranged wife Dimple Kapadia told agencies that he was "exhausted and a little weak".
Sources
further said kidney transplant is ideally not an option, given Khanna's
age and health condition. On Thursday, news started doing the rounds
that Khanna had stopped food intake. Netizens on certain social
networking sites were irresponsibly suggesting that the seventies
Bollywood phenomenon was no more. The same day, Khanna was quick to
quash all rumours by stepping out of his Bandra bungalow, Aashirvad, to
wave at fans who had gathered outside.
His actor son-in-law Akshay Kumar
and wife Dimple were by his side. The buzz that Khanna's health
situation has worsened sprung from the fact that his family gathered
around him earlier this week. Dimple has constantly been by the side of
the reclusive actor, who is known to live alone. His younger daughter
Rinke flew in to Mumbai on Wednesday. Rinke is married to London-based
NRI, Sameer Saran.
In April, Khanna was admitted to Lilavati after prolonged illness. He
was discharged after a few days. A few days later, he was again in the
news when his first-ever TV commercial for a fan company was launched on
the small screen.
